Prado Regional Park White Wagtail

We went to Prado Regional Park in hopes of finding the White Wagtail that was reported on the "spillway." It took a while to find the spillway, but once we did, it was easy to find the Wagtail. Here's a map that shows where the spillway is:

Once there, we saw many other birds. It was a nice day for a walk. We are glad we are no longer on the east coast.

Bolsa Chica: Rails, Skimmers, and more

Stopped by Bolsa Chica last weekend since the Ridgeway Rails chicks have hatched. With a little patience and a little luck, I was able to find a family.

The black skimmers were out and for the first time at this spot, I saw some skimming.

Birding in Palm Springs: Mesquite Golf & Country Club

We took a quick trip to Palm Springs for some food, music and birding. We don't photograph our meals, but here are some of the birds we saw.

American Avocet and Friends at San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary

We went to San Jaoquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine. There were about 20 American White Pelicans flying around and resting on one of the ponds, with about 100 cormorants swimming and diving. We've never seen that many cormorants swimming together before.

The best photos were the avocet and the common yellowthroat.

San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, Irvine

After Huntington Beach, we stopped for breakfast and then checked out the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine. The highlight was a baby Clark's grebe, but we also were impressed with the size of the American White Pelican.
