Delaware Birds

Mike had business in Delaware and found time to go birding along the Brandywine River in Wilmington. It's not quite spring and the migration hadn't started yet. However, it was fun for him to see all the birds we encountered duringNJ winters. Here are some of the best photos.

He also saw a junco, a pair of bufflehead, a chickadee, and a blue jay and heard a white-breasted nuthatch.

Ring-necked Ducks and Belted Kingfisher

We spent some time at UCRs AgOps this weekend. The migrating ducks have just started arriving. It was nice to see a kingfisher too.

Whitewater Preserve

Mike woke Chris up early to go to Whitewater Preserve near Palm Springs. We thought it would be warm but it was a bit chilly.

The best bird we encountered and photographed was the California Thrasher, a new one to us.

There were many ring-necked ducks. Here's a female.

We also saw a road runner and several California Quail, but they were too fast to photograph.

The migrating ducks are starting to arrive nearby. We always enjoy the hooded mergansers, but really appreciated seeing the common merganser female. The common golden eye was a neat find.
